OCHBuffalo Foundation stirs strength with New Year-inspired giving option

Jan 8, 2021

We all “know” someone.

With over one million cases and 38,000 deaths in New York State alone as of early January, there’s very few, if any, of our neighbors whose lives have not been impacted by this deadly pandemic.

For those of us on the front lines of healthcare, the challenge is especially strenuous as we work to not only save the lives of our patients, but also protect our coworkers, families and ourselves in the process.

In the final week of 2020, my colleagues and I saw this relentless virus force a child on to life support and extinguish the life of a colleague’s father, along with that of a beloved ENT surgeon here at OCHBuffalo who had served WNY’s children for over 20 years.

In the spirit of the new year, the Kaleida Health Foundation is encouraging donations of $21 and the option to direct them to its COVID-19 Response Fund. These dollars are used to help our healthcare workers to best care for patients, and ensure that those workers can work safely, and return home safely to their families at the end of their shift.

My inspiration for donating is to honor my two dear colleagues… the ones that I know. Buffalo is a one-degree-of-separation-community, and we ALL have to support one another during our grieving, throughout our continued patient care and toward our collective community’s recovery.

Please, join me in supporting the Kaleida Health Foundation’s COVID-19 Response Fund however you can. Then, share this post and link, and spread the word about this important campaign. With your help, maybe we won’t have to “know” anyone else.
